Lavonne C. Murphy MBA, LNFA, Chief Administrative Officer
As the administrator for Karnes City Health and Rehabilitation I am passionate about improving and maintaining the quality of life and care for our residents. All departments and aspects of the facility are important to make Karnes City Health and Rehab the very best place to live, work and visit! That is the main focus of my job along with promoting and protecting resident rights and I take that responsibility very serious. The fun part of my job is also the residents and the activity program, employee events and celebrations, community involvement and service, marketing, and corporate training and support.
I graduated from John Jay High School in San Antonio in 1984 and worked at Kelly Air Force Base in the summers during college for the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation Department. As a graduate of the University of Mary Hardin – Baylor located in Belton, Texas I received my Bachelors of Business Administration with a management major in 1988. Immediately after graduating from UMHB my first job was as an Activity Director at Air Force Village I in San Antonio, and then attended St. Phillips College for Nursing Home Administration, working as activity director/social service coordinator the following year. After completing a one-year administrator-in-training program with Beverly Enterprises in 1991, I received my Nursing Home Administrator’s license in 1992. Since then I have worked with large and small companies managing from 30 to 180 employees caring for up to 160 residents all over the great state of Texas. I obtained my Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2004 and have since began my Doctorates in Health Care Administration to be completed at a later time.
My family moved to Karnes City in 2004 and have thoroughly enjoyed the fine folks in Karnes County. The county of Karnes is awesome and we absolutely love it here. My oldest son Nathan is a Junior at KCHS this fall 2007 and my youngest son Jacob is a Freshman at KCHS as well. We love staying busy with sports, movies, reading, watching television, restaurant dining, going to the park, hanging out with friends and traveling. Our favorite trip is to Florida where my mother and her husband live, visiting my grandmother in her nursing home and visiting all the cool amusement places in Orlando! We are very involved in community activities as well. I serve on the Karnes City Chamber Board of Directors and assist on committees with the Karnes City Rotary Club. Recently I was given the opportunity to join the Sociedad Mutualista Benito Juarez of Karnes City, Texas. Anytime there is something exciting happening in our county, we are there to help and enjoy!
Please let me know how I can serve you better. I am always available. Even if I am not at the facility I can be reached on my cell at 830-481-3340. Thank you for allowing me to serve you as the Chief Administrative Officer at Karnes City Health and Rehabilitation. I look forward to getting to know you. |

Linda Chapa Director of Nursing
As DON, I oversee our nursing department, including educating and evaluating our nursing staff, creating care plans, assessing new admissions, and educating residents and their families on the care we give. I also assist in marketing to the local hospital and physicians. I was employed at the Methodist hospital for sixteen years, and then at Greens Nursing Home where I maintained a record of zero nursing deficiencies. I have been with Karnes City Nursing and Rehab since 1995, and I aim to make this home the best that I can. I know one day I will need a place for my family, and I want the very best for them and for all of our residents. In my spare time I enjoy being around my family. I also enjoy gardening and decorating. My grandchildren are very important to me. My stress relief is shopping with friends.

Diana Reyes Director of Culinary Services
I am here to ensure all of our residents’ dietary needs are well taken care of. I manage therapeutic diets, weight assessments and nutritional assessments. I also make sure residents are receiving nutritional intake during all meals and snacks. I attended Bee County College studying Business Data Processing for 1.5 years. I worked in restaurants and food stores, and then went on to work with American National Insurance Company. I began my time at Karnes City Rehab and Nursing in 1997 as a dietary cook and dietary aide. I was given the opportunity to attend school for formal dietary education, and after graduation and certification in late 2002, I was promoted to the position of Dietary Supervisor. I enjoy working here because I like making people smile and making a difference in their lives. I love getting to know our residents personally, and I am always happy to make a special request. A resident simply saying thank you or telling me a meal was delicious makes me feel good inside. I give all my credit to my dietary staff; they are the best – dependable, hard-working, and giving 100 percent every day. The entire interdisciplinary team here is like a family, and we all work together well. I was born and raised here in Karnes City, and I have a 20-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son. |

Ramon Alaniz Maintenance Director
I am the Director of Maintenance for Karnes City Health and Rehabilitation Nursing Center. I am also the Housekeeping and Laundry Supervisor. I have been working at KCH&RC since April of 2005, and since this date my job has been a rewarding experience everyday. There is something new to be learned everyday. I have worked in two other homes as Maintenance Supervisor and I really enjoy being around residents. I enjoy working at this home especially because of our residents, and enjoy coming to work and know that I can put a smile on a resident’s face when they are feeling down and out.
I have four beautiful children and a lovely wife of six years who supports me in whatever it may be. My hobbies include spending time with my wife, children and my pit pull Jamaris. I also like to spend most of my free time working on my truck. I work on a little bit of everything and I am not afraid of taking on new tasks. I enjoy working with everyone at the home and hope the feeling is the same from other employees.
I chose to work in a nursing home environment because of the residents. I love that the residents come to me and feel like they can tell me anything. One of my duties that I enjoy the most is transporting residents to their medical appointments. This gives me the opportunity to spend one-on-one quality time with them. They like to share their stories of things that happened the day before, a week before or from years ago. It makes them feel good and it makes me feel wonderful to know that a resident waits for me to come to tell me their stories. Everyday is a smile for me and a lovely heart. Life is short but great!!! |
